Château de Chambord: frequently asked questions
Is this the official Chambord website?
No. Loire Valley Castles is an independent visitor guide. The official website is chambord.org, run by the Domaine national de Chambord. We do not run the château, and our tickets and tours are sold by our partner Tiqets.
How much does a ticket to Chambord cost?
In 2026 the official price is 21 € for citizens and residents of the EEA and 31 € for everyone else, valid to 31 December 2026. Tiqets shows 21 €, the EEA rate, so check the total at checkout if you are not an EEA resident.
Why are there two prices?
The official site sets two experimental rates for 2026: one for citizens and residents of the EEA, with proof, and one for everyone else. Both are valid to 31 December 2026.
Is Chambord open on Mondays?
In high season, yes. In low season it is closed on Mondays outside school holidays. The official site did not list the closed Mondays from 26 October to 18 December 2026, so check its calendar.
How long should I allow for Chambord?
About 3 hours for the château and the French gardens, our estimate. Allow more if you want the park, the horse show or a bike ride.
Can I reach Chambord from Paris without a car?
Yes: take the train to Blois-Chambord, then the Rémi bus line 2, about 35 minutes, 3.40 € paid to the driver. Check both timetables in advance.
Did Leonardo da Vinci design the staircase?
It is a tradition. The official site says the double-helix staircase was inspired by sketches of Leonardo, and the Clos Lucé site says he probably inspired the central plan, but neither proves that he designed it.
Is there a combined ticket with other castles?
Yes, on Tiqets: Chambord with Chenonceau and Clos Lucé, with Amboise, or a pass with Chenonceau and Blois. Compare the price with the single tickets before you book.
Can I climb to the terraces?
Yes. The staircase leads to the terraces, and the visit includes them, according to the official site.
How much is the HistoPad?
6.50 € added to the ticket, or 17 € for three in a family. The official site says it has 12 languages, 16 stops and more than 1 hour 30 of audio.
Is Chambord accessible?
The official site lists a ramp at the ground floor of the keep, accessible gardens, café and toilets, electric carts for rent and a HistoPad adapted for the upper floors. Guide dogs are allowed. Read its accessibility page before you go.
